why political leaders tend to divide the country​

Political leaders don't always divide the country. We have (as hard as it is to believe) had some honest leaders in the past who have tried many times to bring our country into a golden age and failed. Coming to the dishonest ones, they generally divide the country to curry favor, keep themselves in power, line their pockets and help out subordinates. Sadly we have seen more of the dividing type.
