The increase in the population after 1947 has been primarily due to uneducation.
Now the question is illiteracy existed even before 1947.You are right. But after 1947 as the shift of power occurred to the Indian hands.Health facilities were improved which decreased the mortatily rate.India was now able to produce more grains after the green revolution occurred. It was now able to feed more mouths.
But there existed a mentality among the common people that more children will result in more working hand as there existed an era of manual labour/agriculture.
We had just got an independence and were learning how to live, how to govern, how to manage. Before 1947 we were meant to follow orders and merely took part in any governing decisions.
