why porter's place around piece of cloth on their head when they carry heavy loads

because the coloth increase the surface srea of there head and it it soft also so he cant feel pressure on there head

as we know pressure is equal to thrust /area so,

if the surface area is larger the pressure exerted will be lesser therefore porter's place a large piece of cloth on their head to reduce pressure
