Portia is highly praised by bassanio because she is in love with bassanio but bassanio was a spendthrift extravagant of his money and luxury. Even though he is extravagant and spendthrift she likes to marry bassanio because bassanio is handsome and he often received silent messages of love from Portia's eyes
