Why potential energy get negative when force is attractive?

well, the answer to this is simple. 
this is because at infinity we assume the p.e of any body to be 0, as force is 0. 
At distances lesser than infinity (i.e, in vicinity of attraction) the p.e will be lesser( energy decreases with decrease in distance) , which will obviously be negative.

the potential energy is equal to the work you must do to move and object from the U=0 reference point to the position r... the force on an object is the negative of the derivative of the potential function U . this means it is the negative of the slope of the potential energy curve.
