Overwatering does have adverse effect on potted plant in long run. This also depends on quality of soil, drainage layer of pot & active drainage holes at bottom.Most of the potted plants prefer frequent, moderate watering. What plants don’t like is water logging. Over watering will result in stagnation of water in pot; the roots will not be able to breathe properly. Roots are prone to rotting & fungal infections in such conditions.Overwatering can result in stunted growth, leaf yellowing, and leaf drop.

It does not depend on the quality of soil climate or pot it depends on soil pore if the soil is porous it will absorb it
