Answer:

Explanation:1. Despite economic progress, poverty reduction remains India’s most compelling challenge.

2. There are wide disparities in poverty between rural and urban areas. Usually rural areas are poorer.

3. There are also wide disparities in poverty amongst different states- eg., Punjab and Haryana are prosperous while Bihar and Odisha are very poor.

4. Certain social groups like Sc, st, etc and certain economic groups like landless labourers and casual workers, etc are more vulnerable to poverty.

5. Now the challenge is not only to reduce poverty but to reduce human poverty. This included providing- education, proper health care, job security, removal of child labour, caste and gender equality, etc.

6. The poor may not be able to take direct advantages from the opportunities created by economic growth.

7. The growth in agriculture sector has been much below expectation.

8. There has been a direct impact on poverty as a large number if people live in villages and are dependent on agriculture

Hope this helps you.
