An airplane typically flies based on four fundamental forces acting on it!
They are: thrust,drag,lift & gravitation/weight.
thrust is the force generated by the engine, drag is mainly frictional forces. as these forces are acting on the aircraft at the same time..practically power available to the aircraft= (power generated by engine - power lost due to resistive forces) & as mathematically resistive forces are positive, power available to the aircraft > power generated by engine
