There are some "essential" amino acids which means you can not produce them on your own and you need to resort external sources to achieve them.

Likewise there are some essential fats. You need to eat them because they are essential for your metabolism and you can not synthesize them from scratch to survive. (i.e. "De novo" synthesis is not possible)

Having said these: there are NO essential carbohydrates!!! Your liver can synthesize any needed carbohydrate from bits and pieces it collects from proteins and fats through a series of reactions called gluconeogenesis. (Name is self explanatory actually: Gluco-sugar, neo- new, newly, genesis - formed, created). By these mechanisms liver can synthesize simple sugars and even join them with each other to create complex carbohydrates.
