Because of the release of a proton,acetic acid has an acidiccharacter. It turns blue litmuspaper red, indicating that it isacidic in nature. However, it is a weak acid because it does notdissociate completely in aqueous solution. Acetic acid reacts with sodium bicarbonate to produce carbon dioxide.
