Pulses are grown alternatively with wheats and paddy so that the land continues to regain nitrogen. Pulses are leguminous plants which have nitrogen fixing bacteria in their root nodules which replenish the nitrogen requirements of the land and help in nitrogen fixation

Correct answer:

It is because pulses are known to be the nitrogen-fixing plants that add nitrogen back into the soil that was lost due to the plantation of cereal crops. Therefore altering these two crops enables the soil fertility.

Pulses are leguminous plants that hold nitrogen-fixing bacteria in the root nodules, which are known to convert nitrogen into ammonia, which is used by plants.
