why pumice stone is added in the beaker during determining boiling point of water?

porous pumice stone pieces are addedto the liquid to be boiled to avoid bumping of liquid when thetemperature is raised. These pumice stones have fine pores within themselves which provide space for the air. This air make a little bubble inthe liquid which can facilitate theboiling process
