Why Pune experience less rainfall than Mangalore even though they both are located in the western ghats

Answer:

Mangalore has the Western ghats towards its east and the South west monsoon winds get obstructed by these hills and thus it receives heavy rainfall.

But Pune doesn't have any hills as high as Western Ghats, hence most of the SW monsoon winds go towards the north-east towards Himalayan range. Yet comparatively it receives a good amount of rainfall.
