In west India the south west monsoon does not provide rainfall as the Aravalli ranges block the monsoon winds.

In east India the Monsoon winds while travelling become more heavy that they can't raise higher.therefore, in Meghalaya they continuously strike the Khasi Garo and Jaintia hills and spill most of the rains over there. That is why Mawsynram recieves the highest rainfall.

As most rainfall comes in Meghalaya, there is less rain available in Plains.

Therefore rainfall decreases from East to west.

I didnt copy from anything. Just typed the concept what i read in class 9.
