Rani Chennama’s adopted son Rayanna wanted to free his mother from the captivity of the British forces. He organized an army of about five hundred men and had many secret meetings. He wanted to loot the treasury and the taluk offices of the British. The British felt that the son was being instigated by his mother so they decided to shift the Rani from Bailhongala to Kusugal.

Explanation:

  • Rani Chennamma was the warrior queen of Kitturu and she led a war against British forces during the 19th Century. She had led an armed rebellion against the British forces.
  • She had married Raja Mallasarja of the Desai family and had a son who did not survive.
  • Thereafter she adopted a child who was not accepted by the British due to their doctrine of lapse policy.
  • A war broke out and there was fierce fighting from both sides where the British lost the war.
  • Thereafter the British made false promises that the war would end and manipulated the Rani and re-started the war. Rani was defeated and taken into captivity.
