why rayon is known as poor man's silk​

Rayon is an artificial fiber made from cellulose ( mostly wood, sugar cane waste, waste cotton, etc. ) and is a lot cheaper than natural silk which is made from saliva of silk worms cultivated mostly in China. Since it looks and feels like natural silk but is a lot cheaper more people can afford it and hence it is called poor man's silk.
