Answer:

It is the iron in hemoglobin that gives blood its red color. It is easier to bind a second and third oxygen molecule to Hb than the first molecule. This is because the hemoglobin molecule changes its shape, or conformation, as oxygen binds.

Red blood cells specifically ontains a substance that can take up and give off oxygen. This substance is hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a protein containing iron. The iron is incorporated in the protein molecule close to the surface. This lets the iron attarct the oxygen moelcule just like oxygen makes iron rust. Only in this case the oxygen does not get close enough to bind to the iron molecule. This also means that when the amount of oxygen around the hemoglobin molecule gets low, the oxygen is reasily eleased.

Hemoglobin types of oxygen carrying molecules are the most common in nature. But there are also others. These hemoglobins have adapted to the life of the naimal, so that oxygen is taken up and released at the right quantities. The bar headed goose that flies over the Himalaya have a special type of hemoglobin that can take up oxygen in high altitudes. In the sea copper is common in shellfish (molluscs crustaceans and echinoderms ) “Copper blood” (hemocyanin) is blue when it contains oxygen and clear when it loses its oxygen.

Answer:

B'coz oxygen can't be absorbed or say dissolved in the blood directly it is the RBC containing haemoglobin which dissolve oxygen in it and form oxyhaemoblobin and transport to all parts of body.
