why RBC's begin to burst when placed in distilled water

As the Distilled water is hypotonic compared to the solution contained within the red blood cells' (RBC's) membranes. That is why, the distilled water will diffuse into the red blood cells and cause them to burst.

Due to plasmolysis rbc take water into them thereby bursting.
