Why reactivity of al de reases when dipped nitric acid?

When Aluminium is dipped in nitric acid, a layer of Aluminium oxide is formed on metal. This happens because nitric acid is a strong oxidizing agent. Due to this, the reactivity of aluminium decreases.

It's because of formation of an oxide layer on aluminium which prevents further reactions.
