The blue-green light have short wavelength and penetrates deep into the water. It is because of this reason the red algae reach the maximum depth in the sea where no other photosynthetic forms grow. ... Diatom Algae are brown and they inhabit the deepest waters.

Among the green, red and brown algae Red algae is likely to be found in deepest water because of a pigment present in them which is called phycoerythrin due to which it is able to absorb light of blue color and reflects red color .
When sunlight enters into water it breaks into its color components and red algae due to present of pigment is able to carry on photosynthesis using only short wavelength light found in Greater depth because blue light penetrates deeper then light of longer wavelength.
