Why regeneration cannot takes place in human beings??

Regeneration also takes place in humans . Liver and nails have the capacity to regenerate.

in embryonic stage, we possess cells that are totipotent, means these cells can differentiate and give rise to any kind of cell. eg- nerve cell or muscle cell. but as we grow totipotency of our cells decreases although some organs like bone marrow, liver have the capability to regrow it's part. but altogether we won't be able to regenerate because that would require very large amount of energy due to complex processes that the cells would need to undergo. therefore, we have evolved to adapt ourselves rather than regenerating.
