Removal of wax layer or ear wax will increase infection chances because -

•Acidic environment is present with wax.

•When bacteria or fungi come in contact with acidic environment, they are unable to survive.

•Removal of wax removes acidic environment for time being, until new layer is secreted.

•This makes one susceptible to infections.

•Ceruminous glands in outer ear canal, secrete substances which keep the ear soft.

•They are also responsible for maintaining acidic environment.
