Replication of DNA is necessary in Mitotic cell division. Because parent cell needs to distribute equal and right number of chromosomes to two its daughter cells.

So To distribute equally, parent cell replicates its 46 chromosomes ( 23 Pairs ) to form 92 chromosomes. These 92 chromosomes are equally distributed to two daughter cells.

Therefore two new daughter cells emerge with having 46 chromosomes each.
