If you mean necessary for an individual to have kids, then yes.

If you mean necessary to be happy, then it depends on your mindset.

If you mean necessary to continue your lineage, then yes.

The only reason why so may individuals reproduce is because they are the genetic descendants of individuals which reproduced in the past and the urge to reproduce is at least partly inheritable.
