why respiration is called a exothermic reaction?

Respiration is considered as an exothermic reaction because in respiration oxidation of glucose takes place which produces large amount of heat energy. This is shown in following chemical equation.

In the respiration process, heat is evolved as one of the product. Therefore, it is called an exothermic reaction.

⏺️ C6H12O6 (aq) + 6O2 (aq) -------> 6O2 (aq) + 6H2O (l) + energy
