Why respiration is called as a exothermic reaction.explain?

In the process of respiration during the digestion process the food molecules get converted into simpler substances known as glucose and this glucose combines with oxygen to form energy .
In this way ,in the process of respiration energy is produced so, it is considered as exothermic reaction.
