Respiration is considered an exothermic reaction because along with its product, heat is evolved.

When Glucose is broken down by cellular oxygen, carbon dioxide gas, water ATP molecules and Heat are produced

C 6 H 12 O 6 + 6 O 2 --> 6 CO 2 + 6 H 2 O + ATP + Heat
