during digestion food is broken down into simpler substance. For example bread, rice, potatoes all these contains carbohydrate. These carbohydrates are broken down into glucose. This glucose combines with the oxygen present in the cells of our body and provide energy. This special process is known as Respiration. There is a release of large amount of energy. Hence respiration is known as exothermic reaction.
