why rich countries,excluding countries of Middle east and certain other small countries ,are generally called developed countries????

They are not called rich countries because most of their wealth comes from rich reserves of oil. However, their other facilities such as health care, education are not as developed as the other developed countries.....

They are not called rich countries because leaving oil reserves , they not have any other other criteria by which it can compete with the world , example ;- health facilities , education etc .
