Because RNA is a matrix for translating genetic information into proteins, non-coding RNAs carry out additional functions such as transport of amino acids to ribosomes, regulation of gene expression. In viruses, RNA may be the carrier of genetic information, instead of DNA. And viroids consist of a ring molecule of RNA and do not contain other molecules.
