The period from 1793-1794 was known was the reign of Terror. Robespierre was the leader of Jacobin club, and he followed a policy of strict control and punishment. He punished ex-nobles, clergy, his enemies, members of other political parties, and even members of his own party who were against his views or opposed him. Peasants were forced to send their grains to the cities and sell it at prices fixed by the government. There was much terror which took place in that period. Many were not satisfied with his ideas and views. This is the reason it was called the Reign of Terror.
