Why salt is used for preserving pickel

Salt is used for preservation. Bacteria etc. die in salt media. The food items, in general, gets soiled due to bacterial action. In a salt medium bacteria dies due to reverse osmotic process. Since in salt media bacteria dies, we add salt to preserve the taste and freshness of the pickles.
