Sant Eknath Maharaj was a great Saint from Maharashtra .It  was believed that he was born between 1528 and 1533 and was considered the Spiritual successor to the work of Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Namadev.

He wrote a variation of the Bhagavata Purana  known as the Eknathi Bhagavata and a variation of the Ramayana  known as the Bhavarth Ramayan.

During the time of Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Namadev in Maharashtra, Devgiri was a prosperous  kingdom under their king Shree Ramdevrai Yadav. Things changed after his death as Devgiri fell into the hands of Muslim invaders. The reformative and uplifting work intiated by Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Namdev came to a halt.

Sant Eknath who lived nearby saw that the people were suffering because of the oppression  of the rulers and have resigned to their fate of being enslaved. Sant Eknath decided to awake them through a mass movement.  Slowly  people began to realise that they were living a miserable life. Ultimately  his efforts bore fruit when the demoralised people started expressing their anger against the foreign rulers
