Why scouring is done before sorting of wool

Scouring is done before sorting of wool to wash the sheared wool with soap and water to remove dust,dirt and grease so that the clean wool is obtained for sorting where woollen fibres are again scoured and then sorted into different categories according to their texture, colour,etc.
