why sedimentary rocks are also known as stratified rocks????

Because in most cases it is formed from an accumulation of layers of sediment. The layers are called strata.

The original rocks were broken due to the action of erosion by agents of gradation like flowing rivers , wind and sea beds or along valleys . These deposits or sediments gradually acculmulate in layers . These layers , in due course of time , were compressed and cemeted to form stratified rocks called sedimentary rocks . Sometimes fossils of plants and animals are found in sedimentary rocks .
