Why semiconductor is not called semi insulator? Give valid reason.

Semi-insulators are those materials which have conductivity close to that of insulators. But, as they can still carry electrical current they are categorized as semi-insulators rather than insulators. ... An example of semi-insulator is gallium arsenide. Thus, you cannot call a semi-conductor as a semi-insulator.
