Pythagoreans called 7 the perfect number, 3 and 4, the triangle and the square, the perfect figures. 

I will add that Christianity also has Seven Deadly Sins, but 6 of them really come out of the the single biggest one - pride. Number six is also only a bit less than seven. Triple six is number for devil - he wants to be like a God, but he will never be. He is the most perfect being (Lucifer, the Greatest Angel, Bearer of Light, first among created Beings), but still just a Creature - he is 6.
