A dissected plateau is a plateau which has been critically eroded, hence the relief is sharp. Weathering and Erosion are the main activities which gives rise to a dissected plateau.

- The Yunnan plateau and the Shan plateau, both have slopes steeply on the west side. The rivers like the Mekong and the Salween flow across it. Since both the plateau are having rivers cutting across them and hence creating valleys. Therefore they are referred to as the dissected plateau.
