Shrikandini was firstly born as Princess Amba , the daughter elder daughter of kashi king.She had two younger sisters named Ambalika and Ambika. Once , the swanvara of these princesses was held and many great kings and princes came to woo them. But, Amba was secretly in love with the king of Saubala Shalva. At the same time Bhishma arrived in order to take the 3 princesses with him to make them marry with is step brother Vichitra Virya ,the son of King Shantanu and Shatyavati. When the king Shalva opposed him for this ,Bhishma gave him challenge to fight with him .So , the fight started but unfortunately the king died .Seeing this the princess Amba came in rage and asked Bhishma to marry her .But, Bhishma refused to do so due to his oath of " Bramhacharya" meana that he would never marry any women nor he would make his own family. So hearing this Amba went to Lord Parshuram , the guru of Bhishma to seek help . Hearing what the princess had said the Lord came in anger and asked Bhishma to fight with him. This fight started and took a very fierce look. Gooddess Ganga ,the mother of Bhishma arrived and asked Lord Shiva to stop both Lord Parshuram and Bhishma or the whole world would be at stake. After a while Lord shiva appeared and asked both of them to stop that fight. Seeing and hearing what Lord Dhiva had said Amba became furious and pleased the Lord to listen her hearings . She said to the lord that ' She wanted to become the reason of Bhishma 's death' . Hearing this , Lord Shiva gave her a boon that she would be born in an another life as a girl named ' Shrikandini' and would become the reason of Bhishma's death. And that's why Shrikandi was born at the home of a king of panchal named Drupad . In the great war of Mahabharat she killed Bhishma according to Lord Shiva's boon .
