why shillong experiances less rainfall than cherrapunji​

Cherrapunji lies on the windward side of the Khasi hills and receives rainfall from the S.W. Monsoon Bay of Bengal branch whileShillong lie on the leeward side of the Khasi hills and so they receive less rainfall.
