The rearing of fishes is called Fish framing. It is known as pisciculture.

There are 6 steps in pisciculture as follows :-

Step I\longrightarrow Breeding it is the first step of pisciculture and is divided into two types:-

{\underline{\tt{\green{(a)\:Natural\:breeding-}}}} Fishes are allowed to breed naturally and eggs are collected manually.

{\underline{\tt{\green{(b)\:Induced\:breeding -}}}}The sperm and ova are collected separately, to allow desired fusion.

Step II \longrightarrow Hatching fertilised eggs are kept in hatching pits. After few days small size fishes (4-5mm) called fish fries originates.

Step III \longrightarrow Nursery ponds Fish fries are transferred to ponds containing natural zooplankton and phytoplankton. Fish fries live here for 15-30 days.

Step IV \longrightarrow Rearing ponds Fingerlings are transferred in large tank for 2-3 months until they attain size of about 20Cm

Step V \longrightarrow Stocking ponds Now, these fishes transferred in large ponds till maturity.

Step VI \longrightarrow Harvesting The big size fishes are captured for marketing and smaller one again released into stocking ponds.
