why should acid be added to water not water to acid
Answers
Answer:
So much heat is released that the solution may boil very violently, splashing concentrated acid out of the container! If you add acid to water, the solution that forms is very dilute and the small amount of heat released is not enough to vaporize and spatter it. So Always Add Acid to water, and never the reverse.
hope it helps
The combination reaction of acid and water is highly exothermic reaction releasing a lot of energy in the form of heat . This can be so vigorous that it catches fire and may cause severe burns .
The acid is added to water with the sides of a glass rod so that the water absorbs the heat gradually produced in the reaction. If water was added in the acid , acid could not absorb that heat and would lead to its splash which may produce burns .
Hence , it is adviced to add acid to water rather than water to acid .
