Most importantly, freedom fighters inspired and motivated others to fight injustice.
They are the pillars behind the freedom movement.
They made people aware of their rights and their power.
It is all because of the freedom fighters that we prospered into a free country free from any kind of colonizers or injustice.
Not too long ago has India become free from the shackles of the East India Company which came in to do business and ended up ruling our nation for almost a 100 years.
100 years of subjugation, of inequality and exploitation is enough to permanently etch into our memories the feeling of helplessness our forefathers suffered throughout their lifetime. From that suffering, had emerged the freedom fighters who lived and died dreaming of a free nation.
Not just enough food, we now have a surplus of it. No company, no nation can exploit us anymore to produce cash crops for them while we die in starvation (Like the Britishers did during the Bengal famine during (1943-44)
No one can levy unwarranted taxes on us for being brown skinned or less civilised than them. We can now choose our own leaders, protect our homes and boundaries and pursue education.
Every breath that we take in our free country is a gift bestowed on us by those who died believing in this cause. And that is why we should never forget either our past or the ones who gave us our present.
