Equation should be balanced because mass can neither or destroyed in a chemical reaction.
Ex Mg+O2=MgO is not true but,
2Mg+O2=2MgO is true
Ex Mg+O2=MgO is not true but,
2Mg+O2=2MgO is true

an equation should be balanced to follow the law of conservation of mass which states that matter can neither be created nor be destroyed during a chemical reaction....
example----H2+O2=H2O.....As u can see it's looking like one molecule of O2 has been destroyed in the chemical reaction but it can't happen as stated by law of conservation of mass.... so we will balance this equation like::-
1...2H2+02=2H2O...or
2....H2+1/2 O2=H2O......
