Why should animals become adapted to live in fast-flowing waters when there are regions of slow-moving water in a river?

Amount of flow of water either in a stream is never the same,as it fluctuates form season to season & even during a season. In such times,if animals do not have adequate adaptations to remain in a particular place,or even if they have the ability to come back to its desired niche,if dislodged - then it can survive,if not death is almost certain.
If the animals adapted to fast flowing are found in slow moving water- it could be:
1) They are temporarily dislodged & will get back to its original position or search for a suitable place.
2) If the niche is the same, slow moving water might be only a temporary phenomenon.

It may be because the animals there are used to the habitat and want to live there itself and it may also be because they don't find it difficult to survive there
