Why should biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes be discarded in two separate dustbins?

Biodegradable materials are broken down by micro-organisms in nature into simple harmless substances. Non-biodegradable materials need a different treatment like heat and temperature for disposal and hence, both should be discarded in two different dustbins.
