why should biodegradable and non biodegradable wastes should be discarded in 2 separate dustbin?

biodegradable means which can be decomposed by microbial activities but non biodegradable cannot be decomposed., for example plastic
if we discard them separately, it may help us to use that biodegradable wastes as manure or something else but once it is mixed with non biodegradable it may get polluted... and hence we cannot use them further.
