  • Caste can play a negative role in a democracy when either an economically strong or historically strong caste or community can assert their wants over those of the marginalized communities. Caste can also lead to divisive politics which promote hate-crime in society and build walls between different sections of the society and public.
  • Religion also can play a negative role, where a majority religion might rub its wants, practices and laws upon the minority religions, and hence proving to be a breach to the right of expression and faith, two core tenets of any global democracy.
