All the citizens should be allowed to have a freedom of religion because of following reasons:
- Each and every citizen has his / her personal opinions about various religions. someone like Islam whereas someone wants to be a follower of Hinduism. The variation in views of people should be understand by the government so as to avoid conflicts.
- Since India is a secular country where no religion is considered official. so it is ultimate that eveyone has freedom to choose the religion of his likeness.
- Democracy also says that each person is free to become follower of any religion. so to promote democracy this should be done.

Because Freedom of expression is a necessary part of the society, and freedom of religion is necessary part of freedom of expression.
The only alternatives are either state religion or enforced religion state like Mao's china or Stalin's Soviet Union, tow of the most murderous religion in human history, together responsible fir more deaths than all the religion violence in all history combined.
