hey mate
Common Frogs tend to use smaller, shallower ponds and lay their spawn in the edges where they will get plenty of light and warmth. Common toads may use larger lakes, reservoirs and fisheries as their tadpoles are protected from predation by a toxin in the skin.

There are many reasons Why should frogs live near the pond.
1) the tadpoles have to reach the females. and if the frogs were on land then this is impractical but in water they travel with the flow and reaches to the female eggs.
Hence, pond is laso a medium through which fertilization between male gametes and female gametes take place.
2) There are many aquatic plants in the pond or near the pond which is the centre of attraction foramy insects and frogs feed on these intects to get food and nutrition.
So, aquatic plants become a source of nourishment for frogs.
I hope this may help yoh.
According to my knowledge and learning, i know this much.
thank you
